Advent Concert with the Choirs of Chesterton Academy on Dec. 1

Please join the Choirs of Chesterton Academy for a beautiful evening of Advent music on Friday, December 1 at 7PM at Church of the Annunciation located at 509 W 54th St, Minneapolis, MN 55419 (click here for directions). The Choirs of Chesterton Academy are directed by Nicholas Chalmers and Christopher Ganza. The Advent Concert will also feature a performance by the St. Cecilia String Academy, led by virtuoso violinist, Mr. Michael Sobieski.

The concert is free and open to the public. A light reception will follow the concert.

ABOUT THE DIRECTORS Mr. Nicholas Chalmers, Director, Choirs of Chesterton Academy. Mr. Chalmers earned a Bachelor of Arts in music and history from St. Olaf College in May, 2007. He completed his Master’s in Choral Conducting at the University of Minnesota. Mr. Chalmers is the Artistic Director of the Mirandola Ensemble, and performs with various groups around the Twin Cities and nationally, including the Rose Ensemble, the Minnesota Bach Ensemble, Glorious Revolution Baroque, the Bach Society of Minnesota, and Lyra Baroque Orchestra. Mr. Chalmers is the Director of Music and Liturgy at the Church of the Annunciation in Minneapolis.

Mr. Christopher Ganza, Assistant Director. Mr. Ganza received a Bachelor of Music in Church Music from St. Olaf College, a Master of Music in Organ Performance from the University of Oklahoma, and recently completed doctoral coursework at the same institution. In addition to his duties at Chesterton Academy, he is the Organist and Choirmaster at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Minneapolis, where he directs an active sacred music program that includes the semi-professional parish choir, cantors, and the choir of Vespers at Lourdes.

Mr. Michal Sobieski, Director, St. Cecilia Academy for Strings. A well-known Polish-American virtuoso violinist, Mr. Sobieski recently retired from The St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, which he joined in 1979. He graduated from the Warsaw Academy of Music and was a member of the Warsaw Philharmonic Chamber Ensemble and the Warsaw Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra. After winning a special diploma of honor at the 1970 Jean Sibelius International Violin Competition, he studied at Indiana University. During his career, he has been concertmaster of the Symphony Orchestra of the State of Mexico, and co-concertmaster of Venezuela’s Maracaibo Symphony Orchestra.
