Advent is a time of preparation. As our Holy Father said, Advent is “a journey toward an encounter with the Lord.” For us as creatures, that encounter began in earnest with the Incarnation, the single most momentous event in human history. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that all of history led up to Christ’s coming, and that God even created “in the hearts of the pagans a dim expectation of this coming.” This pagan longing can be seen in ancient literature, and reflecting upon it can be a fruitful exercise in our own Advent preparation.

You’re invited for a special evening of wine, cheese, and Advent reflections with Chesterton Academy Headmaster John Niemann. The evening will feature a careful examination of Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey and the culture that created them, explored through the lens of the Church.
