MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota (May 11, 2015) Chesterton Academy, a private, independent high school offering a classical education taught through the lens of the Catholic faith, announced it has been awarded challenge grants totaling $50,000 from the Richard M. The challenge funds will underwrite student scholarships and tuition assistance in the 2015-16 academic year and help Chesterton Academy continue to provide affordable high school education to working- and middle-class families in the Twin Cities metro area. The Challenge comes at a time of continued growth for Chesterton Academy, whose enrollment is expected to reach 150 students in fall of 2015.

The school successfully met an initial $25,000 challenge grant from the Schulze Family Foundation at the annual Chesterton Gala held on February 7, 2015. A second $25,000 challenge grant was announced publicly this month as the centerpiece of the school’s annual Campaign for Chesterton Academy. Through the Challenge, the Foundation will match gifts received from new donors and the amount of new gifts that are over and above the largest previous gift received from an existing donor.

Chesterton Academy Board Chair, Richard Vigilante, said “Chesterton Academy relies on thrift, devoted faculty, and the generosity of donors such as the Schulze Family Foundation to keep the school affordable for families.” At $6,495 for the 2014-15 academic year, the school boasts one of the lowest tuitions among private high schools in the region. Generous financial aid makes the school accessible to even more families.

Vigilante continued, “We are grateful to Mr. Schulze and his foundation for his shared vision and support of our model of delivering an outstanding education at an affordable price.”
